Goal
The Westview School seeks an inspiring teacher who will deliver an individualized, developmentally appropriate physical education program students in Early Childhood through Lower Elementary. The physical education teacher will provide opportunities for students to gain confidence and engage in activities that promote healthy, active lifestyles throughout their lives.
Qualifications
• Minimum BA in Education, required
• Valid Texas teacher Certification, required
• Special Education Certification, preferred
• Prior experience working with children with special needs, preferred
Skills/Knowledge
• Dynamic educator with a willingness to innovate and inspire
• A desire to promote healthy, active living across the entire school
community
• A proven ability to differentiate and work with students at all skill
levels
• A positive attitude and a commitment to collaborating with others
• An ability to communicate well orally and in writing with students, staff,
and families
• Excellent organizational skills
Duties
• Teaches physical education to students in Early Childhood through
Elementary
• Employing a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media
that is consistent with the physical limitations, needs, and capabilities
of individuals students and/or groups of students
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an
orderly, productive environment
• Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned equipment to prevent loss
or abuse
• Participates in in-service training to improve level of skill in working
with students with disabilities
• Participates in extracurricular activities to show school support (Trunk
or Treat, Family Fun Day, etc.)
• Cooperation with staff, principals, and the Head of School in providing
activities for school events such as Field Day
• Measure student progress to encourage the mastery of state standards
• Celebrate individual and collective accomplishments by teaching the
importance of self-improvement
• Create appealing lessons that implement a variety of methodologies
• Cultivate student awareness and ownership of personal performance
• Design, plan, and implement physical education lessons based on state
standards
• Encourage teamwork as to set collective and personal development goals
• Ensure accommodations and modifications are made for the growth and
development of all students
• Ensure that the physical education environment is clean, safe, and
constructive for all students
• Ensure all equipment is in proper working order and that safety standards
and school policies are followed at all times
• Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, and
individual, dual and team sports

The Westview School is a private, non-profit institution dedicated to providing a stimulating, specialized learning environment where high-functioning children with autism spectrum disorder can reach their full potential. Founded in 1981, Westview is the only school in the greater Houston area and among the few in the country that specifically serves children with autism spectrum disorder, ages 2 through high school. Our program integrates rigorous academics with a strong emphasis on social communication and social skills, aiming to enhance self-esteem and foster successful community integration.
