Exploring Purpose at the Intersection of Policy, Justice, and Health for All
Voice Up invites students to explore how purpose-driven policy advocates address systemic health inequities through evidence-based policy and social justice. This 8-12 week internship connects lived experiences, community advocacy, and policy analysis to transformative work in health equity from social determinants of health to racial justice in healthcare, environmental justice, access to care, health policy reform, and the intersection of policy with mental health, maternal health, and community well-being.

LEARNING GOALS
Students develop: Understanding of health equity as purpose-oriented discipline shaped by racial justice, social determinants of health, community empowerment, and systemic change • Connection between personal narrative and opportunities to advance health equity through policy advocacy • Critical skills in health policy analysis, legislative advocacy, community organizing, health impact assessments, and equity-centered research • Purpose-based policy proposals, health equity campaigns, community health initiatives, or advocacy strategies • Professional identity through narrative writing, mentorship, and reflective practice
INTERNSHIP STRUCTURE
Weeks 1-2: B Curriculum, personal health equity narrative, Fuller Method mentoring, exploration of social determinants of health
Weeks 3-4: Health disparities analysis, structural racism in healthcare, environmental justice, community needs assessment techniques
Weeks 5-6: Systems mapping (healthcare policy, public health infrastructure, community resources), policy analysis fundamentals, designing health equity interventions
Weeks 7-8: Capstone design, policy brief or health equity proposal, contribution to Purpose Library
Optional Weeks 9-12: Research support, health equity metrics modeling, program evaluation, presentations to policymakers
