Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico Policy Fellowship at the NM Association of Commerce & Industry

The New Mexico Association of Commerce and Industry (ACI) is the statewide business advocate, providing lobbying, advocacy, and other resources for New Mexico businesses, with a focus on improving policies that impact employers such as public-private partnerships as a tool for infrastructure development, labor, and the regulatory and legal environment across the state.

ACI is accepting applications for the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico Policy Fellowship at ACI. The BCBSNM Policy Fellowship at ACI is a five-month leadership program designed for college students, both undergraduate and graduate. The program is unmatched in its engagement with business leaders, interaction with elected officials, and opportunities to undertake in important policy research and projects that benefit the state of New Mexico and its economic wellbeing.

The BCBSNM Policy Fellowship at ACI also provides for an experience immersed in policy development that affects a number of diverse industries across the state, as well as an experience that allows an individual to hone their leadership experience and policy knowledge in the healthcare industry through a joint partnership and placement between ACI and Blue Shield Blue Cross of New Mexico.

The BCBSNM Policy Fellow will directly engage in ACI’s member-driven policy development process by attending and participating in a variety of policy committee meetings. ACI policy committees—comprised entirely of ACI member businesses—come together to review ACI’s policy priorities, make recommendations, and set the agenda that ACI’s government affairs team will take to Santa Fe during the legislative session.

ACI’s policy committees include: Agriculture & Food Processing, Economic Development, Education & Workforce Development, Energy & Extractive Industries, Entrepreneurship, Environment, Healthcare, Regulatory & Government Accountability, Taxation, Water & Land Use, and Workplace Issues & Legal Reform. The Policy Fellow will participate in policy discussions, policy formation, as well as policy research to support transition between policy positions to formal legislation to be introduced in legislative session. Additionally, the BCBSNM Policy Fellow will have the unique opportunity to not only engage in policy work at ACI, but due to the design of the joint program with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico, will work directly with industry leaders to learn how policy is implemented and directly affects a New Mexico business and its customers.
