Vice President of Marketing & Communications

Job Overview
The position reports to the President & CEO and the Executive Vice President, and directs the Marketing and Communications team to successfully execute responsibilities. The position is responsible for the design and implementation of a comprehensive marketing, communication and media relations program that enhances the visibility and image of the Greater Phoenix region and GPEC on a local, national and international level.
 
Job Responsibilities
Works closely with the CEO and Senior Management in areas of marketing and communication. Manages and coordinates with the Director of Communications in planning and executing the in-market and outbound communications objectives. Provides oversight of the Sr. Designer for all of GPEC’s design and branding efforts.
Oversee the design, implementation and integration of all marketing and promotional campaigns.
  • Responsible for tactical marketing projects to support the overall marketing and promotional program for the organization.
  • Strategic planning and the ability to understand and develop sound marketing messages.
  • Working with internal and external stakeholders to deliver consistent marketing messages.
  • Develop strategic marketing plans to meet all marketing objectives.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive digital marketing campaigns with GPEC contractors. 
  • Oversee all marketing and promotional projects.
  • Be responsive and flexible to the competitive environment and emerging opportunities.
Oversee the design, implementation and integration of communications campaigns.
  • Develop marketing materials to adequately communicate with GPEC's private and public stakeholders.
  • Work with internal teams to update and support GPEC’s Internet sites. 
  • Support Investor Relations activity with communications and event planning.
Oversee the design and implementation of media relations program.
  • Implement a strategic media relations plan (local, national and international).
  • Work closely with and position CEO as an expert spokesperson on economic development issues.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Communications to:
    • Implement in-bound media tours to Greater Phoenix and out-bound media missions to targeted business media markets.
    • Develop, maintain, and enhance relationships with targeted local, national and international media.
    • Write by-lined articles presenting GPEC views for targeted publications.
Oversee the design and implementation of advertising campaigns.
  • Production, copy, printing and distribution of print advertising, and direct mail.
  • Collaboration with internal staff and outside contractors and advertising agencies.
  • Manage and direct the advertising agency relationship.

Skills & Responsibilities

Requirements and Qualifications 
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related area such as communications, marketing, journalism or public relations.
  • 8+ years of related work experience required.
  • Familiarity and relationships with local media a definite plus.
  • Must have experience in the composition of concise, accurate and persuasive material. 
  • Understanding of media needs, preferences, and processes.
  • Creative ability in identifying and presenting story opportunities that appeal to target audiences.
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to interface effectively with media professionals, senior-level business executives and elected/public officials.
  • Goal driven, self motivated, persistent and professional.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate.
  • Familiarity with public policy.
  • Strong project management skills including the handling of multiple projects simultaneously.
Physical/Mental Demands 
  • Ability to perform assigned duties in highly interruptive conditions and under constant time pressures.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret many forms of data.
  • Ability to complete tasks at a computer terminal and monitor.
  • This position is occasionally required to travel within the Greater Phoenix area.
